SEC East Rewind
by Jon McDonald
Gold star: Florida. Going 8-0 in the SEC during the regular season is a major accomplishment. The last time the Gators accomplished the feat was in 1996, and they went on to win the national championship that year. Florida is in the driver’s seat to get a fourth ring if it can get past Alabama in the SEC title game.
Silver star: Georgia’s running game. Running backs Caleb King and Washaun Ealey sparked the Bulldogs’ offense in the second half, scoring three touchdowns combined in a win over Auburn. King’s touchdown with 6:52 left in the game proved to be the difference. Georgia also became bowl eligible with the win.
Bronze star: Kentucky’s backfield. Running back Derrick Locke accounted for 144 of the Wildcats’ 308 rushing yards, and quarterback Randall Cobb added 99 yards and two TDs on the ground in a win at Vanderbilt. The Commodores’ run defense isn’t anything special, but 308 yards on the ground should give Kentucky some confidence. With the Wildcats becoming bowl-eligible, Vandy might be the only team in the East not looking at a postseason game.
Quote: “We didn’t have a way to tackle him. He set a school record for rushing yards, and we probably set a record for missed tackles.” -Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin on Ole Miss running back Dexter McCluster
