Gold Star: Kentucky. Kentucky improved 7-4 after its first win over Georgia in Athens in 32 years. Don’t look now, but the Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak heading into a season-ending showdown with Tennessee.
Silver Star: Florida backup quarterback John Brantley. Brantley completed 9-of-13 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday against Florida International. Even though the competition wasn’t stellar, Brantley showed a nice command of the offense.
Bronze star: Tennessee. The Volunteers have managed to become bowl eligible amidst a slew of off-the-field distractions. Montario Hardesty ran for 171 yards on Saturday as Tennessee handled Vanderbilt to get to 6-5. Lane Kiffin’s team can improve its bowl positioning with a win over a surging Kentucky team on Saturday.
Quote: It doesn’t mean too much to me because I’m not about breaking records. It’s an honor though, just being mentioned with Herschel Walker. That’s pretty cool.” - Vanderbilt freshman running back Warren Norman on breaking Herschel Walker’s freshman record for all-purpose yards
