SEC West Rewind: Week 13

by gssports

Gold Star: Mississippi State. Dan Mullen caps his first season as Bulldogs’ coach with a big win over Ole Miss. Not only was it a win against a rival, it was a win against a ranked team, which makes a 5-7 year a little easier to swallow.

Silver Star: Auburn’s defense. Even though Alabama running back Mark Ingram left the game with a hip pointer, Auburn held him in check while he was in. Ingram only rushed for 30 yards against the Tigers’ defense, and probably wouldn’t have rushed for many more had he stayed in. Auburn coach Gene Chizik and his defense had Ingram’s number.

Bronze Star: LSU. A week after losing to Ole Miss by spiking the ball with no time left on the clock, the Tigers rebounded to beat a solid Arkansas team in overtime. Now LSU coach Les Miles can pursue another 10-win season in his bowl game and perhaps the criticism of his clock management will subside. At least a little.

Quote: “The strong do survive but the strong do get their [butts] kicked. That was my message to the team.” – Alabama coach Nick Saban after beating Auburn 26-21
