Coach Houston Nutt predicts there will not be a letdown after a thrilling victory over LSU last week.
Nut says that the rules are a little different because the Rebels take on rival Mississippi State. “This week’s always personal, it’s a rivalry. There’s aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters that have been talking about this game,” Nutt said.
He also pointed out that his team’s win over Tennessee was emotional, but there was no letdown against LSU.

SOUTH CAROLINA
Coach Steve Spurrier enjoys night games, but doesn’t mind day games later in the season.
Spurrier says that with the SEC Network’s partnership with ESPN, his Gamecocks play whenever television tells them to. He also said that night games are fun earlier in the season, but it’s good to have some day games as the season progresses.

Gold Star: Kentucky. Kentucky improved 7-4 after its first win over Georgia in Athens in 32 years. Don’t look now, but the Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak heading into a season-ending showdown with Tennessee.
Silver Star: Florida backup quarterback John Brantley. Brantley completed 9-of-13 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday against Florida International. Even though the competition wasn’t stellar, Brantley showed a nice command of the offense.

Gold star: Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett. The sophomore threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Mississippi State. In a season of ups and downs for the Razorbacks, Mallett has been a consistent force. The SEC will be a more exciting league if Mallett decides to return for his junior season.

After getting an up-close and personal view of Ole Miss running back/wide receiver Dexter McCluster, Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin thinks there is a future for the speedy Rebel in the NFL.
Kiffin says the key to McCluster’s game is the unique combination of being small and fast. Comparing him to Tennessee Titans running back Chris Brown, Kiffin says McCluster will probably run a 4.3 second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine.

Coach Les Miles says that quarterback Jordan Jefferson will be healthy enough to play against the Rebels this week after suffering an ankle injury against Alabama two weeks ago.
Backup quarterback Jarrett Lee got the start against Louisiana Tech last week, but couldn’t find a rhythm. Gold star: Florida. Going 8-0 in the SEC during the regular season is a major accomplishment. The last time the Gators accomplished the feat was in 1996, and they went on to win the national championship that year. Florida is in the driver’s seat to get a fourth ring if it can get past Alabama in the SEC title game.

Gold star: Ole Miss’ do-everything running back Dexter McCluster. The elusive senior set two school records against Tennessee on Saturday, one for rushing yards in a game (282) and the other for most all-purpose yards (324.) Oh, and he also scored four touchdowns on runs of 15, 23, 32 and 71 yards.

Florida might be the No. 1 team in the BCS standings, but Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen sees Alabama as the co-No. 1.
No matter how you rank them, both teams are loaded with talent and the Bulldogs will have their hands full against the Tide on Saturday in Starkville.

One of the reasons Florida is not scoring as many points as last year is coach Urban Meyer’s confidence in the defense and kicker Caleb Sturgis.
Meyer has not taken as many gambles in short-yardage situations as he did in previous years because of how solid his defense is playing and how consistent the strong-legged Sturgis has been.
